Freshman Hanna Wagenbach of Burlington scored 14 points and sophomore Joy Beran of Riceville and freshmen Whitney Jensen of Remsen had 13 points apiece as the DMACC women's basketball team ran its winning streak to five consecutive games behind an 81-67 win over Black Hawk-Moline Community College (BHMCC) November 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, ranked 23rd in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), trailed 24-20 at the end of the first quarter and 44-39 at halftime before outscoring the Braves 42-23 in the second half to come away with the win. DMACC outscored BHMCC 21-13 in the third period for a 60-57 lead heading into the fourth quarter and pulled away with a 21-10 run in the period.
The Bears shot 46 percent, hitting 34 of 74 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-25 from three-point range and 6-of-11 from the free throw line.
Freshman Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids grabbed nine rebounds to lift DMACC to a 52-30 advantage on the boards. Freshman Kaylee Stratton of Tiffin had six rebounds and Wagenbach, Beran and Jensen came away with five apiece. Beran, Jensen and Stratton led DMACC in assists with four apiece and Jensen topped the Bears in steals with two.
The DMACC women's basketball team will play North Platte Community College (NPCC) Nov. 29 at North Platte, Neb., and will open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Nov. 30 against Southwestern Community College (SWCC) at Creston. NPCC is 5-3 this season and SWCC had a 1-6 record.
