Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., led four players in double figures with 27 points as the DMACC women's basketball team handed Ellsworth Community College (ECC) a 91-72 loss January 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Huthinson's 27 points came from eight field goals in 15 attempts from the field with all eight coming from beyond the arc and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Sophomores Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake and Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo joined Hutchinson in double figures with 19, 16 and 11 points respectively as the Bears improved to 14-7 overall and 10-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears, ranked 18th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), have won their last three games and 12 of their last 14.
DMACC led 20-17 at the end of the first quarter and 46-38 at halftime. The Bears took control of the game in the third period when they outscored the Panthers 23-14 for a 69-52 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
DMACC shot 43 percent from the field, hitting 31 of 73 field goal attempts, including 10-of-27 from three-point range. The Bears were 19-of-20 from the free throw lane
Freshman Joy Beran of Riceville grabbed eight rebounds and Ainley and Richardson had five apiece as DMACC came away with a 34-32 advantage on the boards. Freshman Mary Walker of Fonda dished out a team-high five assists and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., added four. Hutchinson led the Bears in steals with three.
The DMACC women's basketball team will play Marshalltown Community College (MCC) Jan. 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 p.m. MCC is winless in the ICCAC at 0-11 and is 2-17 overall. DMACC defeated the Tigers 75-50 when the two teams played Jan. 17 at Marshalltown.
