Ainley leads DMACC women's basketball team past ECC, 74-66

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 25 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 74-66 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 6 at Iowa Falls.

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo scored 14 points apiece as the Bears improved to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their third straight win and their seventh victory in their last eight games.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were up 21-12 at the end of the first quarter, 37-22 at halftime and 50-41 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 34 percent in the win, hitting 25 of 73 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-24 from three-point range and 17-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

ECC came away with a 41-39 advantage rebounding with Ainley and freshman Joy Beran of Riceville pulling down nine rebounds apiece to lead the Bears. Freshman Mary Walker of Fonda had five rebounds and Hutchinson, Richardson and sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis had four rebounds apiece. Hutchinson led DMACC in assists with five and Ainley had four. Ainley and Walker topped the Bears in steals with five apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Jan. 10 at Creston. SWCC is 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the ICCAC.
