Sophomores Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 19 points apiece to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to an 86-70 win over the St. Ambrose University Junior Varsity (SAUJV) December 4 at Davenport.
Sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant also reached double figures with 13 points as the Bears improved to 5-5 for the season.
DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were ahead 23-15 at the end of the first quarter and held a 44-31 lead at halftime. They were up 64-52 at the end of the third quarter.
DMACC shot 52 percent in the win, making 33 of 63 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-18 from three-point range and 13 of 15 from the free throw line. Ainley drained six of seven field goals, including both of her three-point attempts, and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Hutchinson was 3-of-8 from the field and made both of her three-point attempts. She was also perfect at the free throw line, going 2-of-2.
DMACC came away with a 42-29 advantage on the boards with freshman Joy Beran of Riceville pulling down eight rebounds to lead the Bears. Sophomore Mary Walker of Fonda had six rebounds and Fuller and Ainley finished with five apiece. Walker and Ainley topped DMACC in assists with four apiece and freshman Niya McGee of Waterloo led the way in steals with two.
The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup Dec. 6. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC is 1-0 in conference play. SECC is 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the ICCAC.
