DMACC women's basketball team defeats NIACC, 71-63
  • Freshman Jaden Ainley leads DMACC with 18 points

Freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 18 points and freshman Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji added 11 and 10 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team handed North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) a 71-63 loss January 25 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears survived a late threat by the Trojans to improve to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC also avenged a 65-48 loss to NIACC Dec. 3 at Mason City.

 

 DMACC led throughout the game, including 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 32-19 at halftime. The Bears used a 27-14 run in the third quarter to open up a 59-33 advantage heading into the fourth period and then held off a late threat by the Trojans to come away with the win. NIACC outscored DMACC 30-12 in the period and closed to within five points late in the final minutes before the Bears were able to put the game out of reach at the free throw line.

 

DMACC shot 51 percent in the win, hitting 23 of 45 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-15 from three-point range and 18-of-31 at the free throw line.

 

Jones narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds to lead DMACC to a 35-28 advantage on the boards. Ainley added seven rebounds and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City and Fuller had six and five rebounds respectively. Freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale dished out a team-high three assists and Ainley topped DMACC in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face the William Penn University Junior Varsity Jan. 27. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium
