The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Reagan Franzen the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II women's basketball for the week of February 21 to 27.

Franzen, a freshman from Polk City, is the third member of the DMACC women's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Emily Caspers of Swaledale earned the honor for the week of November 21 to 28 and CoFR Magan Christopherson of Milford was honored the week of Nov. 15 to 21.

Franzen averaged a double-double as the Bears split two games during the week. She had three points and seven rebounds in a 77-30 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) on Feb. 23 and came away with 23 points and 13 rebounds in an 86-74 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) on Feb. 27. Franzen's 23 points included three three-point baskets and she made 10 of 13 free throw attempts. Her 13 rebounds matched her career high.

The loss to KCC came in DMACC's final game of the regular season. The win over SWCC came in a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI play-in game and sent the ninth-seeded Bears into the quarterfinals where they will again face KCC.

Franzen is averaging 7.1 points and 7.5 rebounds a game for DMACC this season. She has scored 213 points and pulled down 225 rebounds, second only to Caspers on the team. Franzen is shooting 43 percent from the field, having made 70 of 162 field goal attempts. She is 8-of-29 from three-point range for 28 percent and has made 65 of 78 free throw attempts for 83 percent.

Franzen's 225 rebounds include 135 defensive rebounds. Her season also includes 80 assists, 39 steals and three blocked shots.

The DMACC-KCC quarterfinal matchup will be played tonight at Cedar Rapids. In addition to being the Region XI tournament's top seed, KCC is the No. 1 ranked team in NJCAA Division II with a 29-1 record and a 16-game winning streak. In addition to their win over DMACC on Feb. 23, the Eagles defeated the Bears 71-46 Dec. 8 at Cedar Rapids. DMACC takes a 15-16 record into the matchup.
