DMACC women's basketball team drops 76-66 decision to NIACC

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford led three players in double figures with 22 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 76-66 decision to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) February 14 at Mason City.

 

Freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama came away with 17 points and nine rebounds and CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji reached double figures with 10 points as the Bears fell to 13-14 overall and 5-12 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC kept the game close all the way. The Bears had a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 28-26 advantage at halftime. NIACC had a 49-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 45 percent from the field, hitting 27 of 60 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-25 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

Tahahwah's nine rebounds and nine from freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City lifted DMACC to a 40-33 advantage on the boards. CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale came away with seven rebounds and Tahahwah led DMACC in assists and steals with five each. Christopherson finished with four assists.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 16 at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 9-17 overall and 6-10 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated the Hawks 70-63 when the two teams played Feb. 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
