Christopherson's 23 points lift DMACC women's basketball team past SECC, 66-62

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 23 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 66-62 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) February 12 at Keokuk.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City reached double figures with 12 points as the Bears improved to 13-13 for the season and 5-11 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The win avenged an 81-68 loss to the Blackhawks when the two teams played Jan. 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium and gave the Bears a 1-1 split in the series.

 

Christopherson's 23 points came on 7-of-13 shooting from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. She was 4-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and had a 27-21 advantage at halftime. The Bears trailed 47-43 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Blackhawks 23-15 in the fourth period to come away with the win.

 

DMACC shot 41 percent in the win, hitting 23 of 56 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-25 from three-point range and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.

 

Caspers' 10 rebounds helped DMACC to a 44-41 advantage on the boards. Freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama also had 10 rebounds, Franzen came away with seven and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning had six. Franzen led the Bears in assists with five, Branning had four and Tahahwah finished with three. Christopherson and Branning led DMACC in steals with two apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). The Trojans are 18-8 overall and 9-8 in the ICCAC. They defeated DMACC 74-51 when the two teams played Feb. 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
