DMACC women's basketball team suffers 86-49 setback against Iowa Western

 

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 12-12 for the season and 4-10 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following an 86-49 loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) February 8 at Council Bluffs.

 

IWCC led just 14-11 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Bears 18-12 in the second period for a 32-23 halftime advantage. The Reivers had a 55-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford led DMACC with 12 points and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia added 11 points apiece. The Bears shot 33 percent in the loss, hitting 17 of 52 field goal attempts. They were 2-of-8 from three-point range and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.

 

IWCC had a 44-20 advantage on the boards with Christopherson's four rebounds leading DMACC. She also topped the Bears in steals with three and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama led the way in assists with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is home to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) today. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is 16-8 overall and 7-8 in the ICCAC.
