DMACC women's basketball team edges NECC, 70-63

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama added 16 points as the DMACC women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 70-63 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) February 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 12-11 overall and 4-9 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC led most of the way. The Bears were up 21-16 at the end of the first quarter, 36-31 at halftime and 52-48 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent in the win, making 26 of 61 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-29 from three-point range and 10-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

Christopherson's 10 rebounds helped DMACC to a 45-36 advantage on the boards. Freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had nine rebounds, CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji had seven and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning came away with six.

 

Tahahwah led the Bears in assists with six and Christopherson and Franzen had five apiece. Christopherson, Tahahwah, Franzen and Branning had two steals each.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 8 at Council Bluffs. The Reivers are 13-7 overall and 10-3 in the ICCAC. IWCC defeated the Bears 82-64 when the two teams played Jan. 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
