SECC tops DMACC women's basketball team

Freshmen Reagan Franzen of Polk City and Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., scored 14 and 12 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team lost an 81-68 decision to Southeastern Community College (SECC) January 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The game was close throughout the first three quarters with a disappointing fourth quarter contributing to DMACC's loss. The game was tied at 15 at the end of the first quarter and the Bears held a 36-32 advantage at halftime. SECC was up 54-51 at the end of the third quarter and outscored DMACC 27-17 in the fourth period to come away with the win.

 

The loss was the third straight and sixth of the last seven games for the Bears, who fell to 11-11 overall and 3-9 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC shot 36 percent, making 25 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-25 from three-point range and 10-of-11 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 41-36 advantage on the boards with Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Lexi Branning of Manning pulling down 10 rebounds to lead the Bears. Franzen came away with seven rebounds and CoFR Magan Christopherson of Milford dished out a team-high seven assists. Christopherson and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tame led DMACC in steals with two apiece.

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 2. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC is 7-14 overall and 4-7 in the ICCAC.
