DMACC women's basketball team falls to Iowa Lakes CC, 81-61

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 16 points and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia came away with 13 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped an 81-61 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) January 29 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears trailed 22-12 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Lakers 23-13 in the second quarter to gain a 35-35 tie at halftime. DMACC fell behind again in the third quarter when the Bears were outscored 27-12 and they trailed 62-47 entering the fourth period. The win gave ILCC a sweep of the season series.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent in the loss, hitting 22 of 62 field goal attempts. They were 4-of-15 from three-point range and 13-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

ILCC came away with a 42-30 advantage on the boards with CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale leading DMACC with six rebounds. Freshman Regan Franzen of Polk City had five rebounds to go with eight points. Freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama led the Bears in assists with four and freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., topped the Bears in steals with two.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Southeastern Community College (SECC) at 5:30 p.m. today inside the DMACC gymnasium. SECC is 10-11 overall and 5-6 in the ICCAC.
