Marshalltown takes 75-49 decision from DMACC women's basketball team

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 11-9 for the season and 3-7 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 75-49 loss to Marshalltown Community College (MCC) January 26 at Marshalltown.

 

The Bears trailed throughout the game, including looking at a 24-14 deficit at the end of the first quarter. They were down 46-24 at halftime and 53-36 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC was led by freshmen Reagan Franzen of Polk City and Payton Tahahwah of Tama who scored 14 and 13 points respectively.

 

The Bears shot just 27 percent in the loss, hitting 19 of 71 field goal attempts. They were 1-of-24 from three-point range and 10-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

Franzen recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 48-46 advantage on the boards. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Lexi Branning of Manning had eight rebounds, CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale had seven and Tahahwah had six.

 

Franzen and Tahahwah led the Bears in assists with two apiece and Tahahwah topped DMACC in steals with five.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) on Jan. 29. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ILCC is 11-6 overall and 8-2 in the ICCAC. The Lakers came away with a 69-59 victory when the two teams played Dec. 18 at Sioux City.
