DMACC women's basketball team tops ECC, 76-39

Freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama scored 17 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 76-39 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City add 14 points apiece as DMACC defeated the Panthers for the second time this season.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were ahead 21-8 at the end of the first quarter and held a 36-12 advantage at halftime. DMACC had a 57-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 46 percent in the win, making 31 field goals in 67 attempts. They were 5-of-22 from three-point range and 9-of-11 the free throw line.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale grabbed eight rebounds to lead DMACC to a 40-34 advantage on the boards. Tahahwah and Co-FR Lexi Branning of Manning had six rebounds apiece. Tahahwah led the Bears in assists with five and Franzen had a team-high five steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) Jan. 26 at Marshalltown. The Tigers are 5-15 overall and 2-8 in the ICCAC.

DMACC defeated the Tigers 76-58 when the two teams played Dec. 4 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
