DMACC women's basketball team falls to ICCC, 86-69

 

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 10-8 overall and 2-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following an 86-69 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) January 20 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears fell behind early and trailed 26-6 at the end of the first quarter. They were down 40-17 at halftime and 71-43 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Freshman Jadeyn Smith of Acadia led DMACC with 16 points and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 15 points.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent in the loss, making 24 of 67 field goal attempts. They were 9-of-24 from three-point range and 12-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale grabbed nine rebounds, freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had seven and Smith and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning had six apiece as DMACC came away with a 50-42 advantage on the boards. Freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., led DMACC in assists with four and Caspers topped the Bears in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) on Jan. 22. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ECC is 3-16 overall and 1-9 in the ICCAC. DMACC took a 67-44 decision from the Panthers when the two teams played Jan. 5 at Iowa Falls.
