DMACC women's basketball team downed by IWCC, 82-64

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 24 points and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama added 10 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped an 82-64 decision to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) January 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

IWCC, ranked ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, trailed the Bears 24-16 at the end of the first quarter but put together a 25-4 run in the second period for a 41-28 advantage at halftime. DMACC fought back to trail 58-52 after three quarters but was outscored 24-12 in the fourth period to fall to 10-7 overall and 2-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The Bears shot 38 percent in the game, hitting 24 of 63 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-23 from three-point range and 8-of-13 from the free throw line.

 

IWCC had a 49-41 advantage on the boards with freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City pulling down eight rebounds to lead DMACC. Christopherson had seven rebounds, CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale grabbed six and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning had five. Freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., led DMACC in assists with four and Christopherson, Tahahwah and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia had two steals apiece.
