DMACC women's basketball team falls to SWCC, 71-60

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 21 points and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale added 11 and 10 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 71-60 decision to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) January 8 at Creston.

 

With the loss, DMACC fell to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The game was close most of the way with the Bears trailing 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and then holding a 30-27 advantage at halftime. SWCC had a 47-45 lead at the end of the third quarter and outscored DMACC 24-15 in the fourth period to come away with the win.

 

The Bears shot 30 percent from the field, hitting 21 of 71 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-31 from three-point range and 10-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

Smith recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 11 points and help DMACC to a 51-39 advantage on the boards. Freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had nine rebounds to go with eight points and CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji had eight rebounds. Smith, Jones and freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., dished out three assists apiece and Jones topped the Bears in steals with two.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 12. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IWCC is 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC.
