DMACC women's basketball team falls to ILCC in 2021 Arena Invitational

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 24 points and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia added 14 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 69-59 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the 2021 Arena Invitational December 18 at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.

 

DMACC led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter and held a 29-22 advantage at halftime but was outscored 47-30 in the second half in suffering the loss. ILCC took control of the game by outscoring the Bears 29-17 in the third period to open up a 51-46 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

 

Christopherson's 24 points came on 9-of-18 shooting from the field, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. She made one of two free throw attempts and was named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the game.

 

DMACC shot 41 percent in the loss, hitting 21 of 51 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-19 from three-point range and 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Christopherson and Smith were the only two DMACC players to make any three-point field goals with Smith draining four of her five attempts.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale grabbed 10 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 38-37 advantage on the boards. Christopherson, CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had six rebounds apiece. Christopherson led DMACC in assists and steals with five and three respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is idle until Jan. 5 when the Bears will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) at Iowa Falls. ECC is 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the ICCAC.
