Christopherson leads DMACC women's basketball team past WPUJV, 69-58

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 19 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 69-58 win over the William Penn University junior varsity December 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia also scored in double figures with 14 points as the Bears improved to 9-4 for the season.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears had a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 37-20 advantage at halftime. They were up 55-34 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC won despite shooting 34 percent from the field, going 23-of-68. The Bears were 12-of-33 from three-point range and 11-of-16 from the free throw line. Christopherson led DMACC in three-point shooting, hitting five of 14 attempts and Smith made four of her seven attempts from beyond the arc.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale pulled down 12 rebounds as the Bears came away with a 56-41 advantage on the boards. Christopherson and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had nine rebounds apiece and freshman Karisma Wright of Des Moines finished with eight. Freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., dished out six assists and Franzen and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama had three apiece. Caspers, Tahahwah and CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji topped DMACC in steals with two apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is home to Southeastern Community College (SECC) Dec. 15. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). SECC is 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC.
