Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford led three players in double figures with 14 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 71-46 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) December 8 at Cedar Rapids.
CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama had 12 and 10 points respectively as the Bears fell to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
KCC, the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, had an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter by took charge of the game by outscoring DMACC 18-7 in the second period for a 36-24 halftime advantage. The Eagles were up 53-35 at the end of the third quarter.
DMACC shot just 27 percent in the loss, connecting on 15 of 55 field goal attempts. The Bears were 3-of-20 from three-point range and 13-of-16 from the free throw line.
Caspers, CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had eight rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 42-40 advantage on the boards. Christopherson led the Bears in assists with four.
The DMACC women's basketball team will play the William Penn University junior varsity (WPUJV) Dec. 11. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC defeated the Statesmen 84-56 when the two teams played Nov. 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
