DMACC women's basketball team takes 76-58 decision from MCC

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford led four players in double figures with 18 points as the DMACC women's basketball team defeated Marshalltown Community College (MCC), 76-58, December 4 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale came away with 13 points, freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia had 12 points and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Bears improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were up 23-14 at the end of the first quarter, 37-29 at halftime and 51-43 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 41 percent in the win, hitting 31 of 76 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-24 from three-point range and 8-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

Smith's 13 rebounds helped the Bears to a 52-40 advantage on the boards. CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning had eight rebounds and Caspers and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama had five rebounds apiece. Christopherson dished out five assists and finished with four steals. Tahahwah contributed three assists and Smith topped DMACC in steals with five.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team faces Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Dec. 8 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles are 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the ICCAC. They are the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II women's basketball poll.
