DMACC women's basketball team drops ICCAC opener to ICCC, 70-58

 

Covid-19 freshmen (CoFR) Emily Caspers of Swaledale and Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 13 points apiece as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 70-58 decision to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener for both teams December 1 at Fort Dodge.

 

Freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., also reached double figures with 12 points as the Bears fell to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the ICCAC. The Bears trailed 9-7 late in the first quarter before an 11-2 run by ICCC put the Tritons in control of the game. They led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, 37-26 at halftime and 51-39 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC was ice cold from the field, hitting just 17 of 73 field goal attempts for 23 percent. The Bears were 9-of-26 from three-point range and 15-of-23 from the free throw line.

 

Caspers and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had 11 rebounds apiece and CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji finished with 10 as the Bears came away with a 61-57 advantage on the boards. Franzen led DMACC in assists with three and freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia topped the Bears in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) Dec. 4. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. MCC is 1-8 overall and 0-1 in the ICCAC.
