DMACC's Emily Caspers named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Women's Basketball

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emily Caspers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II women's basketball for the week of November 22 to 28.

 

Caspers, who is from Swaledale, is a covid-19 freshman (CoFR) member of the DMACC women's basketball team. She is the second member of the DMACC women's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. CoFR Magan Christopherson of Milford received the honor for the week of November 15 to 21.

 

Caspers helped DMACC to a split of two games during the week. She scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, pulled down nine rebounds, blocked three shots and had two steals in a 76-74 loss to Black Hawk College (BHC) on Nov. 23. Caspers pulled down 15 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds, as the Bears defeated Highland (Kan.) Community College (HCC), 65-55, on Nov. 28.

 

DMACC improved to 7-2 for the season with the win over HCC.

 

Caspers is averaging 11.4 points and 9.4 rebounds a game this season with 103 points and 85 rebounds in nine games. She is shooting 67 percent from the field, having made 44 of 66 field goal attempts. She is 15-of-24 from the free throw line for 63 percent.

 

Caspers' 85 rebounds include 27 offensive rebounds. Her season also includes 12 steals, five assists and four rebounds.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team opens ICCAC play this evening when the Bears face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are undefeated at 7-0 this season and are ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II women's basketball poll. DMACC is not ranked.
