DMACC women's basketball team downed by Black Hawk College

The DMACC women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak end with a 76-74 loss to Black Hawk College (BHC) November 23 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, who trailed by nine points with less than three minutes to play, lost on a last-second basket after tying the game at 74-74. DMACC is now 6-2 for the season.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Emily Caspers of Swaledale led the Bears with 17 points and nine rebounds. Freshmen Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., and Reagan Franzen of Polk City contributed 13 and 11 points respectively. Freshmen Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and Payton Tahahwah of Tama had nine points apiece.

 

DMACC led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 37-35 at halftime. The Bears had a 54-52 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 47 percent in the loss, hitting 29 of 62 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-17 from three-point range and 12-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

Caspers' nine rebounds and nine from CoFR Camry Jones of Okoboji lifted DMACC to a 43-38 advantage on the boards. Robertson came away with seven rebounds and Franzen had five. Robertson topped the Bears in assists with seven and in steals with four. Tahahwah had five assists and Caspers and Franzen had three steals apiece.

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Highland (Kan.) Community College (HCC) Nov. 28. Game time is 2 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC defeated HCC, 61-49, when the two teams played Nov. 13 at Highland, Kan.
