DMACC women's basketball team tops Grand View JV, 80-59

 

The DMACC women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four consecutive games and improved to 5-1 for the season with an 80-59 win over the Grand View University junior varsity (GVUJV) November 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, who led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter and 26-25 at halftime, used a 54-point second half to come away with the win. They led 54-49 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Vikings 26-10 in the fourth quarter.

 

Freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama led DMACC with 20 points. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 13 points and freshman Shakara Robertson of Cocoa, Fla., added 10 points.

 

The Bears shot 44 percent in the win, making 34 of 77 field goal attempts. They were 4-of-25 from three-point range and 7-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

Christopherson and CoFR Emily Caspers of Swaledale had nine rebounds apiece as DMACC won the rebounding battle, 55-42. Tahahwah and freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had six rebounds apiece and freshmen Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and Lilly Lyons of Boone had five rebounds apiece.

 

Franzen and Robertson had four assists apiece and Tahahwah had three assists, six steals and three blocked shots to go with her 20 points. Robertson and Christopherson finished with four and three steals respectively.

 

 The DMACC women's basketball team will play Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) tonight at Rochester, Minn. RCTC is ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll. DMACC is not ranked in Division II.
