West Marshall High School's Karlyn Snider to play women's basketball at DMACC

Karlyn Snider of West Marshall High School has signed a national letter of intent to attend Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and play women's basketball.

 

Snider is the fourth commitment to the DMACC women's basketball program for the 2020-21 school year. Other signees are Emily Caspers of West Fork High School in Sheffield, Grace Flanagan of North Linn High School in Coggon and Jenna Bohaty of Millard West High School in Omaha, Neb.

 

Snider said she loves the atmosphere at DMACC, noting that everyone appears to be upbeat and enthusiastic.

 

"DMACC has tons of great opportunities for me and I can't wait to see what's in store, not only in the classroom but on the court as well," Snider said.

 

Snider said she thinks DMACC has a great women's basketball program.

 

"I have noticed the amount of respect (the players) have toward each of their teammates and to the coaches," Snider said, adding that DMACC has several different academic programs that are of interest to her. "I believe that attending DMACC will better prepare me for my future and will put me on the right track toward achieving my goals later on in life. (Attending DMACC) will allow me to improve on my basketball skills and teach me life lessons that I will cherish for the rest of my life."

 

Snider averaged 9.2 points and 2.3 rebounds a game for West Marshall in 2018-19. She shot 29 percent from the floor, hitting 66 of 228 field goal attempts. Snider was 29-of-147 from three-point range for 20 percent and made 33 of 65 free throw attempts for 51 percent. Snider finished the season with 48 rebounds, including 36 defensive rebounds. Her season also included a team-high 69 assists, 66 steals and four blocked shots.

 

Snider also played AAU basketball for All Iowa Attack, a program she said she thoroughly enjoyed.

"I was pushed by all of the coaches and I practiced with players who had more skills than I did in certain areas," Snider said.

 

Snider has lettered in basketball throughout her high school career. She earned all-conference honorable mention as a freshman, was named to the second all-conference team as a sophomore and named to the first all-conference team as a junior. Snider also lettered in softball as an eighth-grader, a freshman and a sophomore. She earned all-conference honorable mention as a freshman and was named to the second all-conference team as a sophomore.

 

Snider has been named to the honor roll throughout her high school career and has also received an academic letter throughout her high school career.
