DMACC women's basketball team falls to Iowa Central

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team slipped to 8-10 for the season and 2-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 67-61 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) January 19 at Fort Dodge.

 

The game, originally scheduled for Jan. 18, was moved to Jan. 19 because of inclement weather on the 18th.

 

Sophomore Hannah McKinney of Des Moines led DMACC with 17 points and freshman Riley Gatton of Montezuma added 10.

 

ICCC had a 21-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 35-32 at halftime. The game was tied at 50 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 34 percent, hitting 23 of 68 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-29 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

 

ICCC had a 50-40 advantage on the boards with freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames leading DMACC with 10 rebounds. Gatton came away with six rebounds and McKinney added five. Sophomore Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., led DMACC in assists with two and sophomore Taelor Lessmeier of Fort Dodge topped the Bears in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Jan. 22 at Estherville. The Lakers are 11-6 overall and 2-3 in the ICCAC.
