Freshman Katie Scott of Polk City came off the bench to score 14 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team handed Southeastern Community College (SECC) a 57-56 loss January 8 at Keokuk.

Scott made five of nine shots for the field, including going 3-of-6 from three-point range as the Bears improved to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their third consecutive victory. Freshman Riley Gatton of Montezuma joined Scott in double figures with 11 points, also going 5-of-9 from the field, and sophomore Hannah McKinney of Des Moines added eight points.

DMACC trailed 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, led 26-25 at halftime and held a 43-40 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

The Bears shot 46 percent in the win, connecting on 25 of 55 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-21 from three-point range and 2-of-9 from the free throw line.

McKinney pulled down 10 rebounds, leading DMACC to a 44-30 advantage on the boards. Gatton came away with six rebounds and sophomore Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., added five. Scott led the Bears in assists with three and sophomore Taelor Lessmeier of Fort Dodge had two steals.

The DMACC women's basketball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) January 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 1 p.m. NIACC, ranked sixth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
