Robinson leads DMACC women's basketball team past LPT, 96-72

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo scored a team-high 21 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team to a 96-72 win over Little Priest Tribal (LPT) January 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomores Ellie Horn of Newton and Grace Stalzer of Zearing scored 17 and 16 points respectively, freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, had 13 points and freshman Hannah McKinney of Des Moines came away with 11 as the Bears improved to 10-11 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC outscored LPT 53-27 in the second half to get the win. The Bears trailed 25-22 at the end of the first quarter and 45-43 at halftime. They outscored LPT 29-11 in the third period to take a 72-56 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 46 percent, hitting 35 of 77 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-18 from three-point range and made 20 of 30 free throw attempts.

 

Stalzer recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, helping DMACC to a 58-38 advantage in rebounding. Robinson finished with eight rebounds and Horn and freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., had seven apiece. Robinson also dished out a team-high seven assists and led the Bears in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Feb. 6 at Creston. The Spartans are 7-13 overall and 1-7 in the ICCAC.
