Iowa Central Hands DMACC Women's Basketball Team First Conference Loss, 67-56

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team fell to 17-5 overall and 5-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 67-56 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) January 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, trailed 19-18 at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored 23-13 in the second period as ICCC held a comfortable 42-31 advantage at halftime. The Tritons had a 52-44 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Molly Mitchel of Okoboji led DMACC with 16 point and freshmen Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo and Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., contributed 11 and nine points respectively.

 

DMACC shot 37 percent, hitting 22 of 59 field goal attempts, including 8-of-23 from three-point range. The Bears were 4-of-8 from the free throw line.

 

ICCC had a 49-33 advantage on the boards with Mitchell and Davis leading DMACC with seven rebounds apiece. Robinson led the Bears in assists and steals with seven and three respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 3 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles, ranked second in NJCAA Division II, are 20-3 overall and lead the ICCAC at 5-0. They bring a 10-game winning streak into the game
