DMACC Women's Basketball Team Tops ILCC Behind Mitchell, Clark

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji scored 20 points and sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids added 16 as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC), 57-55, January 17 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The win was the second straight for the Bears, who improved to 14-4 for the season and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC trailed throughout the game. The Bears were down 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and were behind 34-29 at halftime. ILCC had a 43-39 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 37 percent, making 24 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-19 from three-point range and 5-of-8 from the free throw line.

 

Mitchell recorded another double-double with 10 points as ILCC came away with a 43-37 advantage in rebounding. Sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood had seven rebounds to go with eight points and Clark and freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., pulled down six rebounds apiece. Clark led the Bears in assists and steals with five each.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Southeastern Community College (SECC) January 20. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SECC is 13-4 on the season and 1-1 in the ICCAC
