Mitchell Leads DMACC WOMEN’S PAST Ellsworth, 82-66

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team opened Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with an 82-66 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 13 at Iowa Falls.

 

Freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., scored 11 points and sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley added nine as the Bears improved to 13-4 for the season and 1-0 in the ICCAC. Sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood finished with eight points and freshmen Emma Rouse of Boone and Allee Ira of Altoona scored seven points apiece in the win.

 

DMACC led 23-15 at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-27 advantage at halftime. The Bears were ahead 61-45 at the end of three quarters.

 

DMACC shot 44 percent for the game, making 28 of 64 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-23 from three-point range and 20-of-26 from the free throw line. Mitchell made five of her eight field goal attempts and was 10-of-12 in free throw shooting.

 

DMACC had a 42-33 advantage on the boards behind Mitchell's 14 rebounds. Davis and Atwood grabbed seven rebounds apiece and freshman Grace Stalzer of Zearing had six. Davis dished out a team-high four assists with Rouse, Mitchell and Ira getting three apiece and sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids topped the Bears in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) on Jan. 17. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Lakers, coached by former DMACC assistant coach Ashley Martin, are 6-9 overall and 1-0 in the ICCAC.
