DMACC Women's Basketball Team Falls to Grand View JV, 81-72

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team saw its record fall to 12-4 for the season following an 81-72 loss to the Grand View University junior varsity (GVUJV) January 9 at Des Moines.

 

The Bears, ranked 15th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), trailed 19-18 at the end of the first quarter and were behind 40-31 at halftime. GVUJV led 53-47 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji led DMACC with 12 points and sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood and freshman Allee Ira of Altoona scored 10 points apiece. Sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids had nine points, seven assists and five steals in the loss.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent, hitting 27 of 76 field goal attempts, including 7-of-29 from three-point range. They were 11-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

Atwood's nine rebounds and eight from Mitchell and freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., helped DMACC to a 51-40 advantage on the boards. Freshman Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo had six assists for the Bears and Davis finished with three steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Jan. 13 at Iowa Falls in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener for both teams. ECC brings a 6-9 record into the game.
