DMACC Women Drops 61-60 Decision to Simpson JV

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team let a nine-point halftime lead slip away in the second half and lost to the Simpson College junior varsity (SCJV), 61-60, December 10 at Indianola.

 

The Bears led throughout the game, including 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and 36-27 at halftime, but were outscored 34-24 in the second half to fall to 10-3 for the season. DMACC led 48-42 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley led three DMACC players in double figures with 14 points. Freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., came away with 13 points and sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji scored 10 points.

 

The Bears shot just 29 percent in the loss, hitting 21 of 72 field goal attempts, including 3-of-14 from three-point range. They were 15-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

SCJV had a 50-45 advantage on the boards with Davis' eight rebounds leading DMACC. Mitchell and sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood had seven rebounds apiece and freshman Grace Stalzer of Zearing had six rebounds.

 

Mitchell, sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids and freshman Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo led the Bears in assists with three apiece and Mitchell topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will close out the 2017 portion of the schedule against Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) on Dec. 14. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
