Shockley, Clark Lead DMACC Women's Basketball Team Past William Penn JV, 91-54

Sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley scored 20 points and sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids had 19 points, six assists and five steals as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team defeated the Willian Penn University junior varsity, 91-54, December 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji and freshman Ellie Horn of Newton scored 14 and 13 points respectively as the Bears improved to 10-2 with their sixth consecutive victory.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears had a 36-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 58-27 advantage at halftime. Their lead was 73-41 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 48 percent in the win, hitting 31 of 65 field goal attempts, including 8-of-21 from three-point range, helped by Shockley, who drained six of her nine attempts from behind the arc. The Bears were 21-of-31 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., lifted DMACC to a 45-26 advantage on the boards with 12 rebounds. Mitchell finished with seven rebounds and sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood had six. Freshman Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo dished out five assists in the win and Davis and freshman Emma Rouse of Boone had four assists apiece. Robinson, freshman Taylor Abernathy of Chicago, Ill., Davis, Rouse and freshman Ashley Kallas of Milwaukee, Wis., had two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face the Simpson College junior varsity Dec. 10 at Indianola.
