DMACC Women's Basketball Team Improves to 6-2 with 88-42 Win

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team ran its record to 6-2 with an 88-42 win over Little Priest Tribal November 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji led the Bears to the victory with a double-double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., scored 14 points and sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood tallied 10 points. Freshman Grace Stalzer of Zearing barely missed a double-double, coming away with eight points and 10 rebounds.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were ahead 23-13 at the end of the first quarter and pushed their advantage to 43-23 at halftime. DMACC led 64-36 at the end of three quarters.

 

The Bears shot 44 percent in the win, draining 31 of 71 field goal attempts. They were five-of-14 from three-point range and 21-of-27 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC had a 51-50 advantage on the boards with Mitchell and Stalzer leading the way. Sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids dished out 12 assists and came away with four steals in the win. Davis paced the Bears in steals with five.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host the Adelaide Blue Devils (Australia) on Nov. 25. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
