- Freshman Jacki Baas allows four hits and strikes out six
- DMACC will face fifth-seeded Copiah-Lincoln CC in the quarterfinals
Freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center highlighted a three-run third inning with a two-run double as the DMACC softball team began play in the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series with a 4-2 win over No. 13 Illinois Central College (ICC) today at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
DMACC, seeded fourth in the tournament, takes a 56-5 record into a quarterfinal matchup against fifth-seeded Copiah-Lincoln Community College (CLCC) May 21 at 1 p.m.
DMACC took a 1-0 lead against ICC in the bottom of the first when freshman Ella Husak of Polk City singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by sophomore Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf. Husak's stolen base was her 49th in 49 attempts this season.
ICC pitcher Broghan Hall began the bottom of the third by retiring freshman Jasey Anderson of Estherville but then issued back-to-back walks to Husak and Caffery on eight consecutive pitches. Emily Compton relieved Hall and loaded the bases on a four-pitch walk to freshman Bri Tigges of Urbandale. The set the stage for Reilling who doubled down the left field line, scoring Husak and Caffery. Tigges, who moved to third on the hit, then scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon.
Husak was the only player in the DMACC lineup with multiple hits in the win.
That was all the runs freshman Jacki Baas needed as she improved to 20-1 on a four-hitter. She struck out six and walked one. ICC scored its runs against Baas in the sixth and seventh innings.
CLCC advanced to the quarterfinals behind a 4-1 win over Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) on May 19. The Lady Wolves take a 44-5 record into their matchup against DMACC.
DMACC and CLCC have two common opponents in Jones College (JC), the tournament's No. 3 seed and sixth-seeded Kirkwood Community College (KCC). CLCC dropped two of three games against JC and won its only game against KCC, 5-0. DMACC lost a 9-8 decision to JC in the Bears' first outdoor game of the spring season and swept all four games against KCC.
