  • Freshman Macee Reilling drives in three runs in 10-2 win in the first game
  • Freshman Jasey Anderson belts two home runs in 12-0 win in the second game
  • DMACC takes a 55-5 record and a 17-game winning streak into the national tournament

Freshmen Macee Reilling of Dallas Center and Jasey Anderson of Estherville provided all of the runs the DMACC softball team needed in sweeping a doubleheader from Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains-B District Softball Tournament May 9 at the DMACC softball diamond.

Reilling drove in three runs in the Bears' 10-2 win in the first game and Anderson hit a pair of home runs and collected three RBIs in a 12-0 win in the second game. The opener was called because of the mercy rule after DMACC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and the second game ended after five innings.

The district championship was DMACC's 11th straight and 12th in the past 13 seasons. The Bears, who have won 17 consecutive games, also qualified for the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series for the 11th consecutive season and the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.

DMACC overcame a 2-1 deficit after three innings in winning the opener against DCC. The Bears opened up an 8-2 lead with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and closed out the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Reilling had three hits, including a double and a home run, and Anderson came away with two hits. Other extra-base hits included doubles by sophomore Mia Walker of Fonda and freshman Bri Tigges of Urbandale. Sophomore Josie McCuddin of Truro added a triple and she and freshman Baylor Gregory of Papillion, Neb., drove in two runs apiece.

Freshman Jacki Baas of Bondurant improved to 19-1 with the win. She pitched all six innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

DMACC took a 1-0 in the first inning of the second game and put the game away with four runs in the second, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Anderson had a single to go with her two home runs. Tigges added a solo home run and Reilling, Walker and sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon drove in two runs apiece. Reilling and freshman Ella Husak of Polk City had two hits apiece for the Bears. Extra-base hits included doubles from Reilling, McCuddin, Walker and Gregory.

Freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda threw the first four innings and improved to 25-1 with the win. She allowed four hits, struck out four and walked two. Sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee pitched one inning and walked one of the four batters she faced.

The DMACC softball team will take a 55-5 record and a No. 4 ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll into the national tournament, May 19 to 24 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. Pairings and seedings for the tournament will be announced later this week.

DMACC has four third place finishes in the tournament, getting those in 2023, 2019, 2018 and 2014. The Bears were fourth in 2015.
