DMACC's Jacki Baas named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Baas allowed three runs and 10 hits in three appearances during the week
  • Baas struck out five of the 11 batters she faced in a relief appearance
  • Baas is 17-1 with a 1.20 earned run average this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Jacki Baas the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the Week of April 21 to 27.

 

Baas, a freshman from Bondurant, is being honored by the conference for the second time this season and she is one of nine members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. She was also honored for the week of March 31 to April 6.

 

Freshmen Bri Tigges of Urbandale, Ella Husak of Polk City, Erin Ades of Boone and Macee Reilling of Dallas Center and sophomores Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf and Hilary Wilson of Solon have been honored for their hitting and freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee have been honored for their pitching, including five times for Jungers.

 

Baas pitching 14 innings during the week, including three innings in relief, allowing four runs on 10 hits with 18 strikeouts.

 

She threw all seven innings in a 3-2 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) April 22 at Norfolk, Neb., allowing two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts.

 

Baas went four innings in a 9-1 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC), April 26 at Iowa falls, allowing two runs on one hit with four strikeouts and she threw three innings of relief in an 8-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 27 at Estherville. She allowed one run and struck out five of the 11 batters she face.

 

Baas is 16-1 with a 1.20 earned run average this season. She has pitched 99 and a third innings, allowing 42 runs, 17 earned runs, on 84 hits. Baas has struck out 98 batters and walked 28. She is averaging 6.91 strikeouts per seven innings and 1.12 walks and hits per inning.

 

The DMACC softball team, 50-5 and ranked fourth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is the top seed in the Region 11-a Softball Tournament May 2 to 4 at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears will face eighth-seeded Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in a semifinal game at 2 p.m. on May 2. Fourth-seeded North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and No. 5 ILCC make up the other half of the bracket. The double-elimination tournament continues with a championship bracket game and a consolation bracket game on May 3 and a championship bracket game on May 4. A second championship game, if needed, would be played immediately following the first championship game.

 

The Region 11-A winner will advance to the Northwest Plains District Softball Tournament May 9 and 10 at the home of the Region 9 champion. The Northwest Plains District champion will advance to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series May 19 to 24 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
