The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Bri Tigges the NJCAA Player of the Week for Division II Softball for the Week of April 16 to 22.
Tigges, a freshman from Urbandale, is being honored by the NJCAA for the first time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. Sophomore Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf was honored for her hitting the week of March 26 to April 1 and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Des Moines and freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda have been honored for the pitching, Blomgren the week of Feb. 12 to 19 and Jungers the week of Feb. 20 to 26.
Tigges had 11 hits in 18 at-bats for a .611 batting average as the Bears won six games during the week. Her 11 hits included a double, a triple and four home runs. She drove in 11 runs and scored 10 runs.
Tigges was 2-for-2, including a home run, with two runs scored and two RBIs in a 9-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the first game of a doubleheader April 16 at the DMACC softball diamond. She was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in a 6-3 win in the second game.
Tigges homered in two at-bats, scored three runs and drove in one run in an 11-3 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in the first game of a doubleheader April 18 at Hudson. She went 2-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and two RBIs in a 6-1 win in the second game.
Tigges' best outing of the week came in a doubleheader sweep of Kirkwood Community College (KCC) April 19 at the DMACC softball diamond. She was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, including the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, in an 8-7 win in the first game and was 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs and a run scored in an 8-0 win in the second game.
Tigges is batting .426 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .760 slugging percentage this season. She has 55 hits in 129 at-bats and her hits include seven doubles, three triples and 10 home runs. Tigges has driven in 38 runs and scored 44 runs.
The DMACC softball team, 46-5 overall, 22-2 in the ICCAC and ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), closes out the regular season with doubleheaders against Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 26 at Iowa Falls and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 27 at Estherville.
