The DMACC softball team ran its record to 35-4 overall and 11-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after sweeping a doubleheader from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 9 at Mason City.
Freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs as the Bears took the opener, 4-2. Reilling, freshman Bri Tigges of Urbandale and sophomores Mia Walker of Fonda and Delaney Milanowski of Spring Green, Wis., belted home runs in DMACC's 6-3 win in the second game.
Freshmen Jacki Baas of Bondurant and Kierra Jungers of Fonda earned the wins. Baas improved to 13-1 with the win in the first game and Jungers is 17-1 after winning the second game.
DMACC, ranked seventh in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth in taking the opener. NIACC scored one run in each of the second and sixth innings.
Tigges had two hits, including a double, in the win and Walker hit a solo home run.
Baas threw the first six innings, allowing one run on two hits. She struck out four and walked two. Sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee pitched the seventh inning and struck out two of the three batters she faced.
Reilling also had three hits in the second game, a single and a double to go with her home run. Walker, freshmen Ella Husak of Polk City and Erin Ades of Boone and sophomore Josie McCuddin of Truro had two hits apiece with McCuddin also getting a double. Reilling led the Bears in runs batted in with two.
Jungers went the first five innings, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Blomgren threw the last two innings and struck out five of the six batters she faced.
The DMACC softball team's 11-1 record is good for first place in the ICCAC and the Bears have a two-game lead against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and Kirkwood Community College (KCC). DMACC will face Hawkeye Community College (HCC) and (ICCC) this weekend, meeting HCC in a doubleheader April 12 at Waterloo and seeing ICCC in a doubleheader April 13 at Fort Dodge. HCC is 10-28 overall and 1-10 in the ICCAC. ICCC is 29-5 and 8-3.
