DMACC's Jacki Baas named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Baas earned three wins and a save during the week
  • Baas allowed four earned runs in 14 and a third innings
  • Baas is 12-1 with a 1.22 earned run average this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Jacki Baas the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the Week of March 31 to April 6.

 

Baas, a freshman from Bondurant, is being honored by the conference for the first time this season and she is one of seven members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Freshman Erin Ades of Boone, sophomore Bre Caffery of Bettendorf, freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center and sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon have been honored for their hitting, Ades the week of March 31 to April 6, Caffery the week of March 24, to 30, Reilling the week of Feb. 24 to March 2 and Wilson the week of Feb. 17 to 23.

 

DMACC freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee have been honored for their pitching, Jungers the weeks of March 24 to 30, March 27 to 23, March 3 to 9, Feb. 24 to March 2 and Feb. 17 to 23 and Blomgren the week of Feb. 10 to 16.

 

Baas won three games and earned a save as the Bears went 7-1 during the week. She pitched two and a third innings and struck out two batters in earning a save in a 5-2 win over Kirkwood Community College (KCC), in the first game of a doubleheader April 2 at Cedar Rapids. She got the win in the second game, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned run, and striking out four batters in four innings.

 

Baas allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked one in a 14-0 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond and was a 10-2 winner over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond. Baas pitched five innings, allowing two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

 

Baas is 12-1 with one save and a 1.22 earned run average this season. She has pitched 63 innings, allowing 27 runs, 11 earned runs, on 50 hits with 64 strikeouts and 18 walks. Baas is averaging 7.11 strikeouts per seven innings and is averaging 1.08 hits and walks per inning. She has pitched three complete games.

 

The DMACC softball team, 33-4 overall and 9-1 in the ICCAC, is ranked seventh in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a doubleheader today at Mason City. NIACC, ranked 16th in NJCAA Division II, is 22-12 overall and 7-3 in the ICCAC.
