DMACC's Kierra Jungers named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Jungers pitched the Bears to three wins during the week
  • Jungers allowed 10 hits, struck out 29 batters and walked three in the three games
  • Jungers' 0.21 earned run average leads the ICCAC and NJCAA Division II

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the Week of March 24 to 30.

 

Jungers, a freshman from Fonda, is being honored by the conference for the fifth time this season and she is one of five members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the weeks of March 17 to 23, March 3 to 9, Feb. 24 to March 2 and Feb. 27 to 23.

 

DMACC softball players also honored include sophomore Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf, freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center, sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee. Caffery was honored for her hitting the week of March 24 to 30 and Reilling was honored for her hitting the week of Feb. 24 to March 2. Wilson' offensive performances earned her the honor the week of Feb. 17 to 23 and Blomgren was honored for her pitching the week of Feb. 10 to 16.

 

Jungers pitched the Bears to three victories during the week, allowing 10 hits, striking out 29 batters and walking three.

 

She threw five and two-thirds innings in a 7-3 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 25 at the DMACC softball diamond, allowing five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. On March 26, Jungers went five innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out 10 in a 6-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) at Creston and on March 28 she had her best outing of the week in an 8-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) at the DMACC softball diamond, allowing three hits and striking out 12 batters in six innings in the circle.

 

Jungers is 14-0 with a 0.21 earned run average this season. She has pitched 66 and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on 22 hits with 17 walks and 129 strikeouts. Jungers is averaging 13.54 strikeouts per seven innings and is allowing .58 walks and hits per inning.

 

Jungers leads the ICCAC and Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in earned run average and is second in the conference in wins and strikeouts.

 

The DMACC softball team, 28-3 overall and 4-0 in the ICCAC, is ranked seventh in this week's Division II poll from the NJCAA. The Bears, who have a 14-game winning streak, face No. 12 Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in a doubleheader April 3 at Cedar Rapids. KCC is 26-8 overall and 3-1 in the ICCAC.
