The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of March 17 to 23.
Jungers, a freshman from Fonda, has been honored by the conference four times this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. Jungers was also honored the weeks of March 3 to 9, Feb. 24 to March 3 and Feb. 17 to 23.
DMACC sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee was honored for her pitching the week of Feb. 10 to 16 and freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center and sophomore Hilary Wlson of Solon were honored for their hitting, Reilling the week of Feb. 24 to March 2 and Wilson the week of Feb. 10 to 16.
Jungers pitched the Bears to two of the four wins they collected during the week, allowing two hits, striking out 13 and walking one in six innings in the circle. She allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked one in three innings in a 13-3 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) March 17 at Columbus, Neb., and allowed one hit and struck out five in three innings in a 14-0 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) March 22 at the DMACC softball diamond.
Jungers is 11-0 with an 0.27 earned run average this season. She has pitched 52 and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on 16 hits with 12 walks and 101 strikeouts. Jungers is averaging 13.68 strikeouts per seven innings and is allowing an average of 0.54 hits and walks per innings pitched.
Jungers leads the ICCAC in earned run average and is second in wins and strikeouts. She is also second in wins in all of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II.
The DMACC softball team, 22-3 with an eight-game winning streak, is ranked seventh in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Bears will play a doubleheader against Southwestern Community College (SWCC) today at Creston. SWCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 10-8 overall and 1-3 in the ICCAC Division I standings
