The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Hilary Wilson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the Week of February 17 to 23.
Wilson, a sophomore from Solon, is being honored for the first time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. Freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda is being honored for her pitching performances the week of Feb. 17 to 23 and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee was honored for her pitching performances the week of Feb. 10 to 16.
Wilson collected three doubles and belted two home runs as the Bears compiled a 4-1 record in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic Feb. 21 to 23 in Columbus, Ga. Wilson's week also included 13 runs batted in and six runs scored.
Wilson had two hits, including a home run, drove in four runs and scored one run in a 9-8 loss to Jones College (JC), Feb. 21 in the Bears' tournament opener. JC, the No. 1-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, was ranked fourth at the time and DMACC was ranked ninth.
Wilson followed that performance with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and one run in a 10-1 win over Illinois Central College (ICC), also of Feb. 21.
On Feb. 22, the Bears got wins over Southeastern Illinois College (SEIC), 9-0, and Chipola College (CC), 9-5. Wilson was 1-for-3 with a single in the win over SEIC and went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the win over CC.
DMACC closed tournament play with a 9-1 win over Seminole State College of Florida (SSCF) on Feb. 23 and Wilson keyed the win with a double and a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
SEIC, CC and SSCF are NJCAA Division I program.
Wilson is batting .429 with a .435 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage. She has nine hits in 21 at-bats, including three doubles and two home runs. Wilson leads the Bears in RBIs with 13 and has six runs.
DMACC, 6-1 and ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the NJCAA, will play four games in Booneville, Miss., Feb. 28 and March 1. The Bears will face 17th-ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College (NMCC) and Shawnee Community College (SCC) on Feb. 28 and will play a doubleheader against Mineral Area Community College (MAC) on March 1.
