DMACC's Macy Blomgren name NJCAA and ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Blomgren pitched five shutout innings in helping the Bears to a season-opening win over Rock Valley CC
  • Blomgren allowed two hits, struck out seven batters and walked one
  • Blomgren faced 17 batters in her five-inning stint

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Confernce (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Macy Blomgren the ICCAC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of February 10 to 16.

 

Blomgren, a sophomore from Waukee, is the first member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Blomgren pitched five innings of shutout softball in helping the Bears to a season-opening 3-0 win over Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) Feb. 14 in the SCC Turf Tournament at West Burlington.

 

Blomgren allowed just two hits in her five innings in the circle. She faced 17 batters, striking out seven and walking one. Blomgren, who has a 0.00 earned run average, is averaging 9.8 strikeouts per seven innings and is allowing just .6 walks and hits per inning.

 

The DMACC softball team, ranked ninth in the Division II Preseason poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 2-0 on the season and has not allowed a run in those two games. The Bears recorded their second win of the season in a 1-0 decision against Illinois Central College (ICC) in the SCC Turf Tournament.

 

DMACC will play in the NFCA Leadoff Classic Feb. 21 to 23 at Columbus, Ga. The Bears will face fourth-ranked Jones College (JC) in the tournament opener on Feb. 21. JC brings a 13-3 record into the game.
