DMACC's Courtney Donahue named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Donahue had two wins and a save during the week
  • Donahue struck out 34 batters in 15 innings in the circle
  • Donahue helped DMACC to its 10th consecutive appearance in the 2024 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Courtney Donahue the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of May 6 to 12.

 

Donahue, a sophomore from Marshfield, Wis., has been recognized for the ninth time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be recognized by the conference this season.

 

Donahue has also been honored the weeks of April 29 to May 5, April 15 to 21, April 8 to 14, March 25 to 31, March 18 to 24, March 11 to 17, Feb. 26 to March 3 and Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Other members of the DMACC softball team to be recognized by the ICCAC this season include freshman Delaney Milanowski of Spring Green, Wis., sophomore Elle Nelsen of Grimes and freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon. Milanowski was recognized for her hitting the week of May 6 to 12 and Nelsen was recognized for her hitting the week of April 29 to May 5. Wilson has been honored for her hitting twice, the week of April 8 to 14 and the week of Feb 12 to 18.

 

Donahue won two games and earned a save in three appearances in the circle during the week. She went seven innings in an 8-2 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the championship game of the Region 11-B Softball Tournament May 6 at the DMACC softball diamond, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and 15 strikeouts. Donahue pitched DMACC to a 7-1 win over Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains-B District Tournament May 10 at Glendive, Mont., allowing one run on five hits with one walk and 16 strikeouts. Donahue earned her first save of the season in DMACC's 3-2 win over DCC in the second game of the Northwest Plains-B District Tournament, striking out all three batters she faced.

 

Donahue is 25-3 with a 0.81 earned run average and one save this season. She has pitched 172 and two-thirds innings, allowing 27 runs, 20 earned runs, on 64 hits with 368 strikeouts and 29 walks. Donahue is averaging 14.92 strikeouts per seven innings and leads NJCAA Division II in strikeouts.

 

The second win over DCC gave the Bears the district championship and sent them to the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series May 20 to 25 at Spartanburg, S.C. The Bears have qualified for the tournament 10 consecutive seasons. DMACC, 44-9 and ranked ninth in the final NJACC Division II poll of the season, will play St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) in a first-round game on May 20.
