DMACC's Delaney Milanowski named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Milanowski batted .600 in three DMACC wins during the week
  • Milanowski's hits included three doubles and a home run
  • Milanowski drove in seven runs in the three games

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Delaney Milanowski the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of May 6 to 12.

 

Milanowski, a freshman from Spring Green, Wis., has been recognized for the first time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Sophomore Elle Nelsen of Grimes was honored for her hitting the week of April 29 to May 5 and freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon was honored for her hitting the weeks of April 8 to 14 and Feb. 12 to 18. Sophomore Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., has been honored for her pitching the weeks of May 6 to 12, April 29 to May 5, April 15 to 21, April 8 to 14, March 25 to 31, March 18 to 24, March 11 to 17, Feb. 26 to March 3 and Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Milanowski batted .600 with two doubles and a home run and seven runs batted in as DMACC won three games during the week. She was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in DMACC's 8-2 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the championship game of the Region 11-B Softball Tournament May 6 at the DMACC softball diamond.

 

The win over NIACC sent the Bears to the Northwest Plains-B District Tournament May 10 and 11 at Glendive, Mont., and a single game scheduled for May 11 was not necessary after the Bears swept a doubleheader from Dawson Community College on May 10. Milanowski was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in a 7-1 win in the first game and she was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored in a 3-2 win in the second game.

 

Milanowski is hitting .385 with a .423 on-base percentage and a .785 slugging percentage this week. She has 50 hits in 103 at-bats and her hits include 13 doubles and a team-leading 13 home runs. Milanowski also leads the Bears in RBIs with 49 and she has scored 31 runs.

 

The second win over DCC gave the Bears the district championship and sent them to the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series May 20 to 25 at Spartanburg, S.C. The Bears have qualified for the tournament 10 consecutive seasons. DMACC, 44-9 and ranked ninth in the final NJACC Division II poll of the season, will play St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) in a first-round game on May 20.
