Twelve DMACC softball players earn Region 11 Division II postseason honors

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has announced Region !! Division II postseason honors for Division II softball and the list included 12 members of the DMACC softball team.

 

Sophomore Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., leads the way, being named to the All-Region First Team and named Pitcher of the Year. Joining Donahue on the first team were freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon, sophomore Elle Nelsen of Grimes, sophomore Kelsey Palmer of Cedar Rapids and freshman Josie McCuddin of Truro. Wilson and Nelsen were named to infield positions, Palmer was named to an outfield position and McCuddin was selected as a designated player.

 

Second-team recognition went to sophomore Ceara Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., sophomore Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin, freshman Delaney Milanowski of Spring Green, Wis., and freshman Brenna Caffery of Bettendorf. Swanson was selected as a catcher, Robertson as a pitcher, Milanowski as an infielder and Caffery as an outfielder.

 

Freshman Kyleia Salyars of Muscatine, sophomore Hannah Ironside of Swisher and sophomore Campbell Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., received honorable mention recognition, Salyars as a catcher, Ironside as an outfielder and Kelley as a utility player.

 

Donahue led the Bears to a 44-9 overall record and a 24-4 mark in the ICCAC with 24 wins, three losses and an 0.81 earned run average. She was 12-2 with an 0.70 ERA in ICCAC play. Donahue has pitched 164 and two-thirds innings, allowing 26 runs, 19 earned runs, on 59 hits. She has struck out 349 batters, walked 28 and is averaging 14.84 strikeouts per seven innings. Donahue, whose victories include several perfect games, leads the ICCAC in wins, ERA and strikeouts. She also leads Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in strikeouts. She is third nationally in ERA and fourth in wins. Donahue has a .778 fielding percentage with three putouts, four assists and two errors. She made minimal plate appearances, batting just 24 times with seven hits for a .292 batting average. She has a .320 on-base percentage and a .375 slugging percentage. Her hits include two doubles and she has driven in two runs.

 

Wilson leads the Bears in batting at .516 and she has a .541 on-base percentage and a .951 slugging percentage. Wilson has 63 hits in 122 at-bats and her hits include 16 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. She also leads the Bears in runs batted in with 52 and she has scored 28 runs. Wilson is fielding at a .938 rate with 28 putouts, 33 assists and four errors.

 

Nelsen is hitting .419 with a .462 on-base percentage and a .709 slugging percentage. She has a team-high 75 hits in 179 at-bats, including 20 doubles, a triple and 10 home runs. Nelsen has driven in 44 runs and leads DMACC in runs scored with 59. She has stolen 23 bases in 24 attempts. Nelsen has a .976 fielding percentage with 28 putouts, 54 assists and two errors.

 

Palmer has a .454 batting average with 59 hits in 130 at-bats. Her hits include three doubles and she driven in 13 runs and scored 35 runs. Palmer has a .489 on-base percentage and a .477 slugging percentage. Her fielding percentage is .867 with 13 putouts and two errors.

 

McCuddin has a .397 batting average with a .443 on-base percentage and a .654 slugging percentage. She has 54 hits in 136 at-bats with 14 doubles and seven home runs. McCuddin has driven in 39 runs and scored 28 runs. McCuddin has no defensive statistics.

 

Swanson has compiled a .260 batting average with a .352 on-base percentage and a .312 slugging percentage. She has 20 hits in 77 at-bats and her hits include one double and one home run. Swanson has driven in six runs and scored seven runs. Her fielding percentage is .992 with 373 putouts, five assists and three errors.

 

Robertson has a 12-3 record with a 3.87 ERA and one save. She has pitched 76 innings, allowing 61 runs, 42 earned runs, on 89 hits. She has struck out 94 batters, walked 28 and is averaging 8.66 strikeouts per seven innings. Like Donahue, Robertson has minimal plate appearances. She has batted 11 times with two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Robertson's fielding percentage stands at .941 with three putouts, 13 assists and one error.

 

Milanowski led the Bears in home runs with 13 and was second to Wilson in RBIs with 45. She has 46 hits in 124 at-bats for a .371 average with a .407 on-base percentage and a .766 slugging percentage. In addition to her 13 home runs, Milanowski has 10 doubles. She has scored 29 runs. Milanowski has a .980 fielding percentage with 97 putouts, one assists and two errors.

 

Caffery is batting at a .416 clip with a .455 on-base percentage and a .549 slugging percentage. She has 47 hits in 113 at-bats, including 12 doubles and a home run. Caffery has driven in 17 runs and scored 39 runs. She tops the Bears in stolen bases with 29 in 30 attempts. Caffery's fielding percentage is .927 on 37 putouts, one assist and three errors.

 

Salyars has a .459 batting average with a .534 on-base percentage and a .676 slugging percentage. She has 34 hits in 74 at-bats and those hits include 14 doubles and a triple. Salyars has driven in 10 runs and scored 22 runs. She is fielding at a .981 rate with 191 putouts. 12 assists and four errors.

 

Ironside has a .367 batting average with a .454 on-base percentage and a .522 slugging percentage. She has 33 hits in 90 at-bats and her hits include six doubles, a triple and two home runs. Ironside has driven in 25 runs and scored 25 runs. Her fielding percentage is .929 on 41 putouts, 11 assists and four errors.

 

Kelley has a .321 batting average with a .383 on-base percentage and a .377 slugging percentage. She has 51 hits in 159 at-bats with those hits including seven doubles and a triple. Kelley has driven in 36 runs and scored 25 runs. She has a .943 fielding percentage with 62 putouts, 38 assists and six errors.
