Donahue named ICCAC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week for second straight week
  • Donahue pitched the Bears to three wins during the week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Courtney Donahue the Pitcher of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of April 15 to 21.

 

Donahue, a sophomore from Marshfield, Wis., is being recognized for the sixth consecutive week and the eighth time this season. She is one of two members of the DMACC softball team to be recognized by the conference this season.

 

Donahue has also been honored the weeks of April 8 to 14, April 1 to 7, March 25 to 31, March 18 to 24, March 11 to 17, Feb. 26 to March 3 and Feb. 12 to 18. Hilary Wilson, a freshman from Solon, has been honored for her hitting the weeks of April 8 to 14 and March 12 to 18.

 

DMACC won six consecutive games during the week with Donahue throwing three of those victories, including a perfect game. She threw 17 innings, allowing one unearned run on eight hits with 42 strikeouts and six walks.

 

The perfect game came in a 17-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 17 at Iowa Falls. She threw five innings and struck out 12 batters.

 

Donahue pitched the Bears to a 4-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 20 at the DMACC softball diamond. She went seven innings and gave up five hits with 18 strikeouts and five walks. On April 21 Donahue helped DMACC to a 9-1 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) at the DMACC softball diamond. She pitched five innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits with 12 strikeouts and a walk.

 

Donahue is 19-2 with an 0.81 earned run average this season. She has pitched 129 innings, allowing 18 runs, 15 earned runs, on 48 hits. Donahue has struck out 276 batters, walked 27 and is averaging 14.98 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Donahue leads the ICCAC in wins, ERA and strikeouts. She also leads Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in strikeouts and is third in ERA and tied for third in wins.

 

The DMACC softball team, 36-8 overall and 19-3 in the ICCAC, is ranked ninth in NJCAA Division II. The Bears face seventh-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in a doubleheader today at Cedar Rapids. KCC is 40-10 overall and 21-1 in the ICCAC with a 24-game winning streak. The Eagles defeated DMACC 7-2 and 13-0 when the two teams played April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond.
